Teisha Smith was born in 1984 in Bridgetown, Barbados. She started her dance training at age four at Louise Woodvine Dance Academy where she focused on Ballet and later on Jazz dance.
Teisha Smith was born in 1984 in Bridgetown, Barbados. She started her dance training at age four at Louise Woodvine Dance Academy where she focused on Ballet and later on Jazz dance. Beginning at a young age she participated in many charity shows, pantomime productions and cultural art festivals. In 2001 she taught Ballet and Jazz to young students for a year at the Louise Woodvine Dance Academy as well as working at a Plantation Restaurant performing in a Cabaret Production called "Bajan Roots and Rhythms".
In 2002, she was accepted to Ryerson University where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre Performance majoring in dance, a four-year program. She has had the opportunity to perform in Ryerson Dances 2004 and 2005 produced by Nadia Potts as well as showcasing her own works in Choreographic Works 2004 and 2005 produced by Vicki St Denys. She has had the pleasure to work with inspiring choreographers and guest teachers such as Vicki St Denys, Kathleen Rea, Patricia Beatty, Marie José, Kenny Pearl, Allen Kaeja and BaKari E. Lindsay.
She has performed in a number of independent works by Karen Kaeja and Diana Groenendijk, Katarina Rajkovic for Dance Kraze Productions, Albena de Assis for AfroLatino Dance Company in productions such as Dance Ontario, BMPTV, FfIDA and Nuit Blanche just to name a few. Teisha also explores other styles of dance such as Rumba, Samba, Cuban salsa and Latin cabaret. After graduating from Ryerson she has had the pleasure to continue working with Kathleen Rea in her company REAson d'etre Productions. Recent works include Ire 2006 and Long Live 2008.
This is her third year with COBA and she is looking forward to this coming year.
